Established in 1963 with three engineering branches namely Civil, Mechanical and Electrical, today RVCE offers 12 Under Graduate Engineering programmes, 16 Master Degree programmes and Doctoral Studies.

Centre for Manufacturing Research & Technology Utilization (CMRTU) is involved in conducting research in cold hole expansion, Material Science, Nanotechnology and news materials.

BIO TECHNOLOGY:
This course is used in all fields of life like improvement of the crop in terms of nutrition value, medicinal field for therapeutic purpose, gene therapy for the eradication of genetic disease, organs and organisms cloning. Technology involved is; engineering of gene, Biological scaling and modeling the production reactions, bio-informatics, Nano-technology, Nano-medicine and material. Opportunities are in Agro, food, Pharma, enzyme and bio-informatics sectors. Skills needed are computational abilities, concepts of biology, chemical engineering, physics and statistics. Subjects on Microbiology, Bio- chemistry, molecular biology, unit operations, Biostatistics, Biophysics, Genetic engineering, plant and animal tissue culture and enzyme technical are taught in the course.
CHEMICAL ENGINEERING:
Recent developments in pharmaceutical, fine chemicals, biotechnology and health care products along with existing areas like petroleum products, bulk chemical, etc. requires thorough knowledge in the area of chemical engineering. Chemical engineers are needed in the areas of process design, equipment design, production, production development, process atomization, Nano Technology and R & D marketing and other related fields. Chemical engineering is involved with conversion of less useful raw materials into more useful products. This involves unit operations and unit processes. The core subjects includes transfer operations, thermodynamics and design, reactions engineering and process control. This discipline finds application in electronic industry for developing microchips, biochips and chemical vapour composition. Skills needed are strong mathematical background coupled with analytical abilities.
CIVIL ENGINEERING:
Civil Engineering is a prominent and oldest branch of engineering. Many multinationals are engaged in the infrastructure developmental activities. The job opportunities are in civil engineering fields and software companies. Analytical and logical abilities and liking for the profession are the essential requirements. Subjects on concrete technology, transport engineering, water supply and sanitary engineering, geotechnical engineering, fluid mechanics and machinery, structural mechanics, hydrology and water resources, irrigation engineering are studied in this course.
COMPUTER SCIENCE ENGINEERING:
All social activities today are going for computers right from calculations, records, travel booking, medicine, etc., mainly because of fast and error free operations. This calls for a thorough understanding of concepts and transforming these ideas to computer for processing. This is addressed in algorithm and programming languages. A student who learns the development of software in various areas like manufacturing, education, management and remote control, with thorough technical knowledge in computer network is in great demand by MNC’s including banking and finance sectors. There are unlimited opportunities for jobs. The skills expected are thorough logical thinking and a good competence in mathematics. Subjects on algorithms, Operating System,. Programming languages, Database Management System, Computer graphics, Computer network and artificial intelligence are studied as a part of the course.
ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING:
Electrical power is an integral part of modern life. It is impossible to visualize the world without electricity. There has been rapid advancement in generation, transmission and distribution technologies, opening up new frontiers. The degree of sophistication of control technology has reached a stage where an intricate knowledge of programming, hardware and mathematical analysis is mandatory. This makes field of E & E very attractive and interesting. Subjects on Network theory, Control systems, protection and power systems give the basic exposure to electrical fundamentals, Whereas, analogue and digital circuits, microprocessor, Digital Signal Processing, advanced programming languages makes attractive blend of electrical and electronics, thereby, creating excellent placement opportunities in very sectors. The students of this branch are placed in electrical and electronics related organizations and software companies.
ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING:
Every facet of life today is impacted by electronics in one way or other. Either it is computers (Hardware) or communication (Multimedia) or a control, electronics is the link. The exciting world of electronics needs very good mathematical background and also an analytical mind. The opportunities in electronic field are countless; Application developers, system engineers, integrators and information technology. Infotainment enthralls the common man. Mobile telephony has shrunk the world. Hazardous situations can be handled safely with electronics with robots for disposing bombs, handling the wastes and precision operations. Subjects on digital systems, digital Signal processing, Fuzzy logic and neural networks, VHDL and VLSI, digital communication, embedded system, Microprocessors and micro controllers and microwaves are studied as part of the course.

In the year of inception, the department modestly established contact with about 30 organizations and placed 140 number of students. With every passing year, the number of recruiting organizations have increased in geometric progression on an average about 100 to 120 nationally renowned organization visiting the campus annually and conduct their recruitment process on our campus and during the 2008 passing out batch of students, around 1150 offers have been made and for the present 2009 passing out batch, 96 companies have already visited the campus and have made around 991 offers.

Placement and Training Department is also providing necessary Pre-Placement Training for the pre-final year students in the form of Pre-Placement talks arranged of various industries / corporates, training from the seniors on nature of the written test being imparted and process of interview of different industries. Placement Department also regularly organizes talks from the various professionals from different universities for pursuing higher education in abroad and talks from trainers for taking competitive exams like CAT, GMAT, Aptitude etc.
