General Information:
The Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) is a joint venture of the Karnataka State Government and the corporate sector (ICICI Bank). It was set up on the recommendation of the Vision Group on Biotechnology, an advisory body to the Chief Minister of Karnataka. The Vision Group includes representation from academia, industry and government each recognizing the strengths of other sectors and the value of working together. IBAB's Governing Body has distinguished members from all three sectors. Consequently members of all three rallied to help jump-start the courses, providing support in teaching as well as internships and placements.
IBAB has changed its location to its own 20 acre campus in Electronics City with excellent infrastructure, students' hostel and other amenities. It has recently added several state of the art facilities to its bioinformatics and biotechnology laboratories to enhance its training and research capabilities. IBAB will shortly be hosting a Bio-IT center, a multi institutional public-private partnership effort under the aegis of Department of Information Technology, Government of India, and Department of IT, BT and ST, Government of Karnataka, that will host cutting edge platforms for genome sequencing and data analysis. The institute has also initiated its Ph.D. program affiliated to Manipal University.
IBAB has world class faculty trained from top-notch institutions with significant teaching and research experience. The students are exposed to the most recent advances in the biotech industry and academic research through the large number of scientists who visit IBAB all year around from across the globe. The combination of teaching capacities, exposure to current research, focus on self-learning capacities, personality development and the modern facilities have helped IBAB to be among the very few Indian institutes which have achieved 100% placement record in the lifesciences' sector.
