Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering


Hi, today i am going to introduce a famous college (ie) Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering is located in Kalavakkam in chennai. This college is famous for its administration and also in the way they admission takes place.
Since it is affilated with anna university it also has some seats for the students from anna university ranking so students from cut off marks 197 to 196.5 marks can get any seats in this college. so it is purely depends upon the cut off marks.

This college provides excellent scholarship for the top ranking students. It is affilated to anna university and also has management seats for the benefit of the students. Now currently admission is going on.

About the college:
The SSN College of Engineering is ideally located on a sprawling 250 acre campus on the Rajiv Gandhi Salai – known as the ‘Cyber Corridor’ of Chennai. The campus is fully wi-fi enabled and comprises aesthetically designed buildings that are networked by optic fibre links. SSN Trust was founded in 1994 by Dr. Shiv Nadar and his elder brother (Late) Justice Pratap Singh, a Judge of the Madras High Court. The modern auditorium with a seating capacity of 1000 and centrally air-conditioned is undoubtedly the crown jewel of the SSN campus. The large lobbies are an ideal layout for exhibitions. A variety of activities from College culturals to International conferences have been held here. Many CEOs and dignitaries have graced this venue, the most prominent being Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, His Excellency, the former President of India.
There is an air conditioned 300 seater mini auditorium to hold seminars and meetings.

A hygienic, well-furnished and well-equipped canteen is available in the campus to provide food for the staff and students. Good quality drinking water is supplied in the college, hostel and canteen.

Sport Annexes
The SSN Institutions have well groomed play fields for cricket, basketball, volleyball, football and tennis and an international standard indoor stadium housing the games like basketball, badminton, table tennis and squash. Separate gyms for men and women are also available within the indoor stadium. The College organizes State level Inter Engineering tournaments in basketball, badminton and table tennis for men and women every year for the award of SSN Rolling Trophy. The players of SSN Institutions have been winning significant laurels in the Tamil Nadu Inter Engineering Sports (TIES) and have been representing not only the University but State and also India.

Recongnizing the technological advances and challenges of engineering education of 21st centrury, SSN Institutions have adapted advanced wireless technology to enhance teaching and learning process through eLearning initiative. This eLearning initiative has enriched the class room sessions by making them learner centric.
For this initiative the entire campus is wi-fi enabled. An intranet server is maintained in the campus where the faculty members upload the lesson plans, lecture notes, and the reading materials. The students go through these materials along with their class notes to learn at their own pace and participate more actively in the class.

• The Department of ECE has organized a two day workshop on “WIRELESS SENSOR NETWOKS” from 18th April to 19th April. About 40 participants from various Engineering colleges in Tamilnadu and a few faculties from ECE and CSE departments participated in the programme. A demo in “QUALNET” simulator software was arranged as a part of workshop for the benefits of the participants.

• A sponsored project titled "Gas Tungsten Arc assisted Friction Stir Welding of Steels" has been sanctioned by the Department of Science and Technology on 16-04-2008. Dr.S.R.Koteswara Rao is the Principal Investigator and Dr.M.R.Thansekhar is the Co-Principal Investigator. An amount of Rs.24.45 Lakhs is the budget for the 3 years .

• “ CHEMICZNA – 2007” First national level technical symposium was conducted in September 2007 by the department of Chemical Engineering. Dr.M.Chidambaram. Director, NIT – Trichy, Dr.S.Madhavan, Global Director, Plant Services(Rtd), Kellog Brown & Root, USA and Mr.R.Narasimman, Chairman, Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, Chennai Regional Centre participated and addressed the students. Students from various colleges participated in the function and presented papers. Total prize money of nearly Rs 60,000/- was distributed.

• “Converita-2K7” – Third National Level Technical Symposium was conducted on 20.9.2007 by AIT, Department of IT, SSNCE. Mr. Gowri Subramaniam, CEO of Aspire Systems inaugurated the function and addressed the students. Around 1800 students from various colleges participated in this symposium and 10 technical papers were presented.

• On 17th September, The Department of ECE has conducted ORBITCE 2K7. Students of various engineering colleges participated and won prizes.

• Inauguration of student chapter of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) was held at mini auditorium on 30 – 7 – 2007. Scholarships

The unique feature of SSNCE is the scholarships awarded to students. SSN College of Engineering offers attractive student scholarships to encourage merit and to make education accessible to students of all economic strata. The Institution has initiated a thriving tradition of over 400 scholarships amounting to Rs 4 Crore offered every year to meritorious and deserving students.

Merit Scholarship

Scholarships are awarded to meritorious students, based on the academic performance at the qualifying examinations for freshers, and in the case of senior students, the performance during the previous year. The scholarship offers a waiver of tuition fees, free hostel stay and boarding/grant towards living expenses and an allowance for books. All the Engineering, MBA and MCA programs at the Institution are covered under the Scholarship program.

Merit-cum-Means Scholarship

Every academic year, several scholarships are awarded on the criteria of merit-cum-means. The scholarship offers a waiver of tuition fees, free hostel stay and boarding/grant towards living expenses and an allowance for books. Academic performance and demonstrated economic need are the key criteria for this scholarship.

Waiver of Tuition Fees

First year students of the college who secure the highest marks in the Plus Two examinations have their entire tuition fees waived for the first academic year. Similarly, senior students are offered scholarships on the basis of their previous year’s performance.

Walk-in-Walk-out Scholarships

A top ten rank holder of any State or Central Board Examination at the Plus Two or equivalent level are entitled to pursue the B.E. / B.Tech. degree at SSN College of Engineering absolutely free of cost. In order to promote social equity and justice, the toppers from rural Government Higher Secondary Schools are given direct admission UG Programs with full scholarship for the whole duration of the course.

Post Graduate Scholarships
In order to promote research and encourage meritorious students to pursue post-graduate studies, scholarships are awarded to 50% of the students admitted to the PG programs in Engineering.

Sports scholarships are awarded to students with an outstanding record in sports. Typically, students who have represented the State at National level competitions conducted by accredited Sports Boards are eligible.

5. Is there separate NRI quota ?.
There is separate NRI quota. Application for this quota must be obtained from the Administrative Officer, SSN Trust, 211/95, V.M. Street, Mylapore, Chennai - 600004.
6. Whom can I refer for the quality of SSN?

7. How are M.E. admissions made?

The admission criteria for M.E. degree courses are GATE, TANCET and marks earned in B.E. / B.Tech. qualifying examinations. The admission is done based on merit alone.
8. Are there scholarships for M.E. students also?

50% of eligible M.E. students will be awarded scholarships. GATE students shall get the stipend from AICTE.

SSN Research Centre

Solar Energy Research Career Opportunities


SSN Research Centre, is an inter-disciplinary engineering research institution near Chennai, http://www./rc.ssn.edu.in/ invites fresh graduates and experienced professionals to join the pioneering teams engaged in research and development programmes in harnessing solar energy for conventional and new applications. Applied research topics presently include
• Photovoltaic thin film semiconductor devices
• Solar thermal energy conversion and power generation
• Energy storage systems for solar power harnessing
• Power electronics and smart control of solar energy systems
• Solar energy utilization technology demonstration.
Technical facilities have already been established in-house for PV semiconductor devices fabrication including Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapour Deposition and ultra clean semiconductor device processing environment. A parabolic trough type solar thermal loop has also been set up to support component research in this area. More facilities for characterisation of materials and devices are being added shortly. SSN Research Centre networks with major scientific institutions in India and abroad through collaborative programmes.
Scientists and technologists with minimum qualifications and experience as listed below are invited to apply:
1. Senior Research Scientists : Ph D in Physics, (solid state, semiconductors specialization), or ME / M Tech or equivalent degree in engineering (Energy Systems, Electronics / Communication engineering, , Mechanical engineering, Materials Science / Metallurgy, Chemical engineering disciplines) with at least 8 years professional r&d experience in one of the following areas
• PV semiconductor physics / technology
• Solar thermal power systems, physics, energy conversion, modeling and design
2. Research Scientists : Ph D in Physics, ( solid state, semiconductors specialisation), or ME / M Tech or equivalent degree in engineering (Energy Systems, Electronics / Communication engineering, , Mechanical engineering, Materials Science / metallurgy, Chemical engineering disciplines). Professional R&D experience for 2 years for after completion of ME / M Tech degree in areas related to research topics listed above is highly desirable for these positions. Candidates with B Tech / BE degrees from IITs and other reputed institutions may also be considered if they can demonstrate their exceptional aptitude for research.
