Establishment of college:

Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology (H.I.E.T) was established in Chennai in 1966 for the purpose of non-technical education.

Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology is run by the Hindustan Engineering Training centre (HETC) Educational society and registered as a Technical Education Society under the Societies Act, XXI Of 1860.

The institution is approved by the Director General of Civil Aviation, Government of India, for conducting Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Course and by All India Counsel for Technical Education and the Government of Tamil Nadu for conducting Diploma courses in Automobile, Computer and Mechanical Engineering courses.

The Institution has trained engineers and technicians in many disciplines of Engineering.

It is well equipped with workshops and laboratories. HIET is widely recognized in the Asian and African continents as a premier technical institution.

Various Governments including the Government of Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and the Commonwealth Secretariat and several aviation organizations have sponsored students to undergo courses at HIET.

HIET has trained over 36,000 engineers and technicians. Over 3,000 of them are in aviation, now working with various airlines and aviation industries in India and abroad.

LOCATION

The main Administrative office is located at

It is half a kilometer away from both the Guindy and St.Thomas Mount suburban railway stations and 10 kms from the central railway station. One can board electric trains from Egmore/Park railway station to get here. The Institute is 3 kms away from the Anna International and Domestic Airports.

Autobiography of the chairman

This institution was first started by Dr. K.C.G. Verghese. He was born in an ordinary family in kerla. He was born on20/06/1940. His interest in studies made him achieve many things in his life, by his hard work he rose to the top raking educationalist in his family.

He was one of the pioneer to provide technical education to the people of Chennai. With his own interest he started the Hindustan

institute of engineering technology.

He was the man of kind nature and he helped his student in many aspects and made them to explore their potential.

He firmly believed, “Every human being has infinite potential. The role of an educator is to bring out the best in very individual and that of an educational institution to provide the best facilities and the right ambience. “The Hindustan Group of Institutions caters to 5000 students. It has an amazing staff strength of 1000 and has a scintillating alumni of 50,000. These are the testimonies of his deep-rooted desire to fulfill his aspirations. He was a true patriot and he always advised the youngsters to serve their own country.

He passed out in 14/02/2006. God chose his company on Valentine’s Day. Every year he has been remembered on the valentine’s day (V-day) as Verghese day.

FACILITIES OF HIET:

Sporting Facility & Clubs HIET students have an excellent track record in athletics and all other sporting events. We have an excellent indoor badminton court, volleyball court, table tennis tables and first-aid facilites. H.I.E.T students have won championship for consecutive three years from 2003-2006 in Basketball and Badminton in the divisional zone. They are guided by a physical trainer who caters to their needs and desires of developing them into world class athletes. Catering Facility

HIET has a canteen on campus that caters to the needs of the staff and students during the college hours

Library Our libraries are well equipped and updated with the latest books. We have more than 6000 books reserved especially for our polytechnic students. Books includes topics for Mechanical Engineers, Automobile engineers, aeronautical and A.M.E. Students can use these facility any time of the day. After the commencement of the classes students have to apply for Library cards to access these books. Building Blocks

Administrative block is the place where all adminssions to various Hindustan Group of Institutions are taken up . It has different offices for various directors with in the Hindustan Group of Institution. Here students are admitted to various courses according to their choices.

MGR block-is the main block were all the classes are taken. The ground Floor of the MGR block is used as auditoriums for special occasions.

Anna block-dedicated to A.M.E students.Where all A.M.E. related activities, classes, workshops and seminars are conducted.

ORIENT FLIGHT SCHOOL:

Orient Flight School is the aviation wing of the Hindustan Group of Institutions, a pioneering educational group at Chennai, offering a wide range of courses in Engineering, Management, Applied Sciences and Aviation.

OFS was established at Pondicherry in 1994 and is approved by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India.

The flight training at OFS meets international standards, in accordance with regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India.

With the introduction of low cost airlines in the open skies of India and Asia region, there is an anticipated demand for over 2000 qualified pilots in the next five years.

With the introduction of airplanes like Airbus A380, Boeing 737-800/900 and Airbus 319/320 by Air India Express, Kingfisher Airlines, Indian Airlines, Etihad Airlines, Air Asia, Air Arabia, Air Deccan and so on, there will be tremendous demand for Indian Pilots. With the most modern fleet of aircrafts operated by Orient Flight School in its eleventh year of operations, we are poised to cater to the future of Aviation Industry in India.

In Thirteen years of operations, OFS has trained hundreds of pilots, flown over 17,000 hrs, making over 32,000 landings, creating an excellent and impeccable training record.

We have executed training programs for various non-scheduled and scheduled operators including Air Sahara and are proud to announce that several of our graduate pilots are flying for various airlines including Jet Airways, Indian Airlines, Alliance Air, Air Sahara, Air Deccan, Air India and several other organisations.

HOSTEL:

This is the hostel provided by the HIET and it has nice room and excellent food facilites.

LAB FACILITIES:

This is the aeronautical lab with high tech instrument and machines . These lab are not available in any other colleges in Chennai. These labs are undertaken by the peoples of orient flight school. So teaching is good and one important thing is that many student of these colleges are now working as the lecturer and professor of this colleges . So it is clearly seen that it has excellent faculties.

REGISTRATION AND ADMISSION PROCEDURE:

Admission is open for students qualified to enroll for PPL/ CPL /MER. Applicants have to register themselves with the prescribed application at OFS, Chennai. All the students have to undergo an entrance exam.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE Admission Centers

Admission takes place throughout the year. Interested students can download a copy of the application form from our website or contact our Head office at Chennai.

Those who wish to do particular courses should check up their respective eligibility criteria pertaining to that course.

1. Application for admission to a course should be made only in the prescribed form, which will be issued along with the prospectus.

2. Application form duly filled in should be sent only to the Admission Office or handed over in person along with (a) Copy of the Mark Sheet of qualifying examination attested by the Gazetted Officer. (b) Prescribed check Fee.

3. Application, which are incomplete or not accompanied by the prescribed documents and registration fee, are liable for rejection.

4. The scrutiny committee will process the application and provisionally select the students on merit.

5. Shortlisted candidates for Pilot Training Program will have to attend an aptitude test. Final selection will be based on their marks in the qualifying examination, performance in the aptitude test.

6. Admission notices will be sent to the selected candidates intimating the dates on which they should report at the admission office with the original certificates

After scrutiny of the documents and payment of fees, candidates will be issued "Lettter of Admission" and they should report to the Deputy Director / Chief Flight Instructor of the Flight School at Pondicherry for joining the program.

Students who have opted for hostel accommodation should report to the Hostel Manager in the school for the allotment of rooms.

Refund policy

Tuition and other fees prescribed should be paid on or before the stipulated date as per the laid down guidelines. All fees should be made by DD/ Cheque payable to OFS at Chennai and receipt to be obtained immediately. The refund policy will be as follows and is applicable for the CPL course only:

50% within 1 month

25% within 1-1/2 months

10% within 3 months

No refund will be entertained after the above period. Refund will be made as per the policy prevailing at the time of withdrawal from the course.

Students suspended/dismissed on disciplinary grounds are not entitled for refund and will forfeit the entire fees.
