Admission:
Admissions to all programmes are strictly based on merit. For B. Tech. programmes 70% of the total seats are filled by SASTRA based on the qualifying higher secondary examination marks following the process of normalization. To bring all candidates from different examining authorities or boards in the same scale of comparison and to create a list in the order of merit, higher secondary examination marks are normalized. The first rank student in each board is considered to have obtained 100% mark and aggregate marks of all other students of the board are normalized with reference to that of the first ranked student. For example, if the first rank is 97% and an applicant's aggregate is 90% then the applicant's normalized percentage is 92.78 (90/97 x 100). A merit list is drawn based on the normalized percentage for making admissions. Admissions for students from the vocational stream to the respective B. Tech. programme are done from within the same category of applicants. The remaining 30% of the seats are filled by MHRD based on the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) ranks as SASTRA has volunteered to offer seats to AIEEE qualified candidates. Applications are called for in leading dailies and through SASTRA website for the 70% of the seats filled by SASTRA counseling and the publicity for the remaining 30% of the seats is provided by CBSE.
For all PG programmes the admissions are made on the basis of the scores in the qualifying UG / PG degree programme. GATE qualified students are given preference. For all other UG arts & science programmes, admissions are based on the qualifying examination marks.
About SASTRA
The dreams of its founding fathers took shape in 1984 in the form of Shanmugha College of Engineering which is now renamed, SHANMUGHA ARTS, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY & RESEARCH ACADEMY [SASTRA]. It has carved a niche for itself as a Centre for fostering and developing the body, mind and sprit of its students. SASTRA is totally committed to this three - fold flowering of the students entrusted to its care. Our blend of academic excellence and real world experience with moral values has earned SASTRA, national recognition.
A sprawling campus housing a built up area of over 1.5 million square feet and a vibrant population of over 8,000 students and over 600 teaching faculty have made SASTRA a landmark in the educational map of India.
SASTRA offers various undergraduate and post graduate courses in Engineering, Science, Education, Management and Arts besides various Doctoral programmes and has state-of-the-art laboratories, a well stocked library and one of the best computing facilities. With an ideal teacher-taught ratio, we strive for academic excellence through personalized attention. The mechanism established to support and monitor the student's progress assure success and satisfaction.
Since its inception SASTRA has achieved national standing in terms of academic performance, co-curricular and extra curricular activities and also in its growth and commitment to social service. The standard of excellence of our courses is reflected in the grades awarded to us by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council and in the success of our students in both industry and academia, in India & abroad.
SASTRA shapes its student's future by fostering a teamwork approach to instruction, encouraging interaction with faculty, providing access to high tech information, motivating them to develop new ideas and concepts, taking personal interest in student's career development and preparing them for success.
Building professional contacts on a personal level, students are well supported by the Department of Training and Placement, which offers them a continuous and progressive training that hones their personal, social, inter-personal and professional skills right from their first year. Professional and specialized training is imparted through group discussions, interviews and competitive examinations. Campus interviews are conducted and students are guided to plan their career. Counseling is provided to students to face interviews and to make informed choices, both academic and professional, from among the various options available to them.
SASTRA has an ethos of its own, different from others. At a time when altruistic ideals and civic interests seem to have given way to power goals and heightened interest in materialism, SASTRA presents a holistic approach to personal and professional growth. A moral instructor in the grade of a lecturer who imparts moral education to all students is available in the campus.
SASTRA moulds its students in such a way that their endeavors and interests transcend traditional boundaries. They do not seek to maintain status quo nor settle for observing change; they rather hope to be powerful instruments of change using their dynamic verve to make their contributions to the world.
