DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING:
The Civil Engineering department was founded in the year 2002 Academic prowess is the forte of the students of this department. The students have been amongst the top ranks in the
The department boasts of an infrastructure, the likes of which is rarely seen elsewhere in Tamil Nadu. It has spacious laboratories for all of whose facilities are absolutely state-of-the-art.
DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE ENGINEERING:
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, with an army of 253 students led by 13 captains, knows its goal of technical excellence and strives towards reaching it. From the year of its inception the department has been a consistent achiever
The department’s success is attributed to its motivating and inspiring teachers who handle subjects like Artificial Intelligence, Computer Networking, Principles of Compiler Design, Theory of Computation, Object Oriented Analysis and Design, Software Engineering and Testing, Web Technology, C# & .Net etc, with clarity and insight.
As a manifestation of their technical prowess, the students present projects whenever they get opportunities. The department is proud of the fact that its students have been the finalists at i-Talent conducted by the CII, for the past two years. Also the students have released a CD for outgoing graduate students that contain invaluable information about higher education options such as MS, MBA, and MTech and also about placement procedures.
Academics apart, the department’s excellence is also reflected in its students’ accomplishment in sports. The department emerged triumphant in the Intra-College Sports meet held in 2005. The students also excel in cultural activities like music and dance.
DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING:
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was set up in the year 2001 at
DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING:
The Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department came into being in the year 2003. The subjects that constitute the curriculum – electrical machines, electromagnetic theory, control systems, power electronics etc. give the students a solid grounding in the electrical and electronic fields. The department places a firm emphasis on knowledge based learning. The methods envisaged by the faculty serve a dual purpose. They endow the students with conceptual depth and at the same time enable them meet the requirements of the industry. The conventional methods of teaching are also interspersed with novel methods like virtual classrooms, power point presentations etc. In light of all these, it is no surprise that the students have performed consistently in the University examinations.
LAB FACILITIES:
Department of electrical and electronics engineering:
ELECTRICAL MACHINES LAB 1. Comprises 16 DC and 10 AC machines. 2. 11 Transformers (both single and three phase) 3. Ample number of measuring instruments MI and MC Ammeters, Voltmeter, Watt meters and loading rheostats. |
| POWER ELECTRONICS LAB 1. 30 kits comprising single and three phase AC Phase controllers, inverters, choppers, Bridge Rectifiers and Cycloconverters. |
CONTROL SYSTEMS LAB 1. 15 kits to study transfer function of AC and DC generators and motors,DC and AC servo motors, P , PI , PID compensators, transducers, stepper motor. 2. Simulating circuits using MATLAB. |
DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING:
The laboratories are listed below
1. Basic Electronics Lab - The 1st year students are usually made to work in this laboratory so as to know the basics of electronics
2. Devices and Circuits Lab - This lab enhances the students’ knowledge on basic and linear integrated electronics circuits. Students in this lab play their hands over the discrete components to build a well-functioning circuit
3. Communication Lab - This lab has many sophisticated devices that help students to develop their technical skills on communication which is yet another diversified field of this branch
4. DSP/VLSI LabIt is a well-known fact that VLSI design is the most advanced technology of electronics. Digital signal processing is the equally challenging field in communication. Hence in this lab students study the required high-level languages involved in their designs
5. Microprocessor lab- This lab helps students to know the basics of programming on microprocessors and micro controllers too
6. Rf & Antenna Lab-This lab contains all necessary equipments that help students to learn about radio waves and their transmission and reception by different kinds of antennas
7. Microwave & Optical Lab - This lab enables to practically study the microwave experiments and know more about the related theoritical concepts. It is also equiped with various optical devices to study the optical principles and fuctionalities.
DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING:

1. Fluid Mechanics
2. Soil Mechanics
3. Strength of Materials
5. Surveying
PLACEMENT:
One of the strongest parameter used to rank the sucess of an institution is placements. At MSEC the percentage of placements has been a key factor for its sucess and popularity in short duration. The students are offered placements at their final year of study.
SYMPOSIUM:
WAFES:
The department of Civil Engineering along with the CEA hosted WAFES’ 05, a national level technical symposium on Sept 30th and
ECE DEPARTMENT:
Our National level technical symposium has gone all the way from Pranav06 which was a runaway success. Over 450 students participated in the various events that took place on 21st of Feb.2006.About eight events were held as a part of the symposium, which included Technical events like Paper Presentation, Circuit Debugging, Electronic Dare and Quiz and Non-Technical events like Jam, Ad-zap, slogan writing and many more.
Pranav07 was historical sucess with over 1750 participants from over 84 colleges and took part in various technical events like paper presentation , project presentation , circuit debugging, Electronic technical events and non technical events like mock interview, quiz, adzap, shipwreck, and gaming too..
Pranav ’08 scheduled on 25th January 2008 is the fourth National level technical symposium conducted by the department of Electronics and Communication in association with ELECSA (Electronics and Communication Students Association). This event was a subliming success with copious participation of 1000 students from around 250 colleges in and outside Tamil Nadu. The department also hosted the first “National Conference on Advancement in Emerging Technologies – NCAET”. The inaugural function for this event was presided over by Dr.Chandrasekar Dharuman, Vice-president and Location head of WIPRO technologies
