Hi friends, last week I had posted about the scope for aerospace engineering.Hope you found it useful. This time I'm going to give you a gist about IIST .This institute is the first Institute in India to be offering a full fledged program in Aeronautical engineering. It offers both B-Tech and M.S. Degrees in aeronautical field.
ABOUT IIST
The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is a deemed to be university set up under Department of Space and offers undergraduate B.Tech programme in Avionics, Aerospace Engineering and 5 year integrated masters in Applied Sciences.

LOCATION
This institute is presently functioning in the specially created premises in the Campus of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram. I had visited this campus a couple of years before. The ambiance of this campus is best suited for the students to excel in their academics. It has well established classrooms, hostels, and library and computer facilities. Efforts are on to have it's own permanent campus at Valiamala, 18 kms from Thiruvananthapuram Railway station adjacent to ISRO facilities with the main aim of having close interaction and sharing of specialized infrastructure wherever necessary.
ADMINISTRATION
The chancellor of IIST is our well known former President and The Missile Man Of India Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam.
The chairman of IIST is Dr Radhakrishnan the present chairman Of the Indian Space Research Organisation.
Apart from that all the faculty members of IIST are well experienced .Its a great privilege to study in this institution under the guidance of the eminent scientists of India.

ADMISSION Getting into this prestigious institute is not going to be easy. You'll have to get through the ISAT admission test .There can be no replacement for hard work and determination. If you have them you can definitely reach places. BENEFITS AND JOB OPPORTUNITY space programmes. Also, they are encouraged to take up internships at ISRO labs for a month that will help them know about different technologies in space-related systems. They are also encouraged to take up full projects in the areas of robotics, unmanned aerial vehicle, advanced solar cell, autonomous fire fighter and so on. Also, students can study at premiere institutes in Europe and the US since IIST have signed a MoU with those institutes for student exchange programmes. MY VIEWS ON THIS INSTITUTE:- Talking about the prospects of this institute, this institute is one of its kind and being established by ISRO and the Department of Defence, it is highly creditable. So dont think about the prospects if you are selected here. Now this insitute operates in the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre and does not have its own infrastructure. So it only take 120 students now and is due to expand the seats in each stream. The Department of Defence allocated Rs. 20 crore for its library . And most important of all you dont have to spend a penny to study here. But here lies the catch. You have to work for ISRO for 5 years after graduation. If you want to leave early give 10 lakhs and go. WELL, instead of all setbacks this one is the only institute that I can readily say will give IIT’s a run for their money. Even if you have to sign a bond of 5 years to study here, let me tell you it is totally worth it. GO for this Institute if you have got the oppourtunity. And if you have an interest in aeronautical line this place is HEAVEN. | |
