Oxford Engineering College (OEC) is an elite institution of the prestigious KSM Educational Trust, Trichy, managed by veterans and philanthropists. It is founded with a zeal and ambition to promote and disseminate knowledge, to promote quality education in the field of engineering to students.

Department of CSE:

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering was started in the year 1998 with the intake of 60 students. The department aims to impart high quality education to under-graduate students as well to carry out at the cutting edge of technology research in various disciplines of Computer Science and Engineering. The Department focuses on preparing the students for wide range of IT careers equipping them with unique enriching experience of molding tomorrow's technocrats with high caliber and commitment.

The department has highly qualified and experienced faculty members with doctoral degrees in various fields of computer science from well known institutes and Universities, while some faculty members are pursuing their research degrees using “OXFORD RESEARCH CENTER” WITH APPLE COMPUTERS. In the academic year the department has produced more than 10 research papers which have been published in various International and National Conferences. All the faculty members constantly strive to be abreast of rapid advances in the field by frequently involving in regular industry-academia interaction. . The department also conducts regular meetings addressed by industrial experts for the benefit of students. Conferences and workshops are conducted in specific areas through Video - Conferencing to keep the students and faculty track of technological developments. 24hrs 4Mbps Internet facility is provided for our students. The department has successfully started the ME Computer Science and Engineering in this academic year with full equipped labs and sophisticated equipments.

The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Oxford Engineering College was established in the year 1998, with the approval of AICTE. During the short span of time, the department has established itself as one of the best department of our college and got approval for additional intake of another 60 in the year 2005-06. The Department is adequately staffed with faculty strength of 19 members with Ph.D., PG and UG Qualification, meeting the AICTE norm. In addition, the Department is supported by four non-teaching staff members.

Mr. C.Ravichandran is the Head of the Department and there are 22 dedicated faculty members out of which 1 is Ph.D, 6 are post graduates and four are doing PG and rest of them are under-graduates. The department has number of well equipped labs and provides excellent facilities for teaching learning process. The student association of our department periodically organizes seminars, symposium, conferences, workshop and guest lectures for the benefit of students and also conducts weekly seminar classes by the students.

The ECE department has very good infrastructure facilities. The department has well-equipped laboratories like Communications lab, Electronics lab, Micro Processor lab, DSP lab, Microwave lab, Optical communication lab, Networks lab and VLSI lab.

DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

The department of mechanical engineering was established in the academic year 1998 - 99 with an intake of 40. The intake was increased to 60 from the academic year 1999 - 2000. In addition to this the department has 10% lateral entry students at second year B.E level.

The department is lead by Dr.S.Jaisankar, who has 11 years of teaching experience and 1 year of industrial experience. He has completed his PhD in solar energy at NIT, Trichy. He has published 15 international journals and presented 16 papers in international and national conference. He is doing projects in the area of renewable energy like solar water heating system, solar cooker, Biomass gasifier, Solar distillation, Solar PV panel and wind energy, which are used to minimize the utilization of conventional fuel and global warming effect.

He has received Rs.18 lakhs from Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India for Research project. He has obtained Rs.1 lakh from Ministry of New and Renewable Energy for conducting Faculty Development programme.

The department has 9 laboratories such as Mechatronics laboratory, Analysis and simulation laboratory, Thermal engineering laboratory, Metrology laboratory, Dynamics laboratory and workshops are modernized with well equipped machineries with an amount of Rs.90 lakhs. The basic workshop laboratory is used for all the branches in the college. The various sophisticated equipments like Data acquisition system, CNC production lathe, Steam turbine test rig, vertical milling machine, profile projector, pneumatic trainer kit, cam jump phenomena and pelton wheel, which are used by our students.

The department has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with industries like GB Engineering Enterprises, Thuvakudi, Trichy - 15, Harihar Alloy Casting Pvt Ltd, The Seshasayee Institute of Technology, Trichy - 10, for mutual co-operation. Hence the knowledge transfer between the industry and the institute is transparent which updates the recent technology in both sides.

The department organizes 'Mechrona' technical symposium every year to explore the knowledge from young students. This symposium, seminars, workshops, national level conferences, Winter and summer schools are conducted frequently which would spread the knowledge over the students community and motivate them to do more research activities.

CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

The department of Civil Engineering was established during the year 2004 - 2005. The intake is 30. The department is constantly being strengthened by the intake of qualified and experienced teaching faculty. The department of Civil Engineering has professionally equipped laboratories like, Strength of Material Lab, Survey Lab, Environmental Engineering Lab, Hydraulics Lab, and Soil Engineering Lab. Major equipments like UTM 400 KN Capacity, Compression Testing Machine, Hardness Testing Machine, Impact Testing Machine, Wood Testing Machine are the highlights of the department. Consultancy work is being taken with various Government and Private construction companies in testing materials like Cement, Bricks, Coarse aggregate and Rebar. Students are being motivated in presenting papers on various topics at various Colleges and Universities. In-plant training is arranged during vacation period in construction industries.

Special Guest lectures are arranged in each semester on various topics beneficial to the students, Job oriented value added course like ARCHICAD, STAADPro, advanced AutoCAD are being planned for the students. Staff members are motivated to attend Faculty Development Programme on various subject related topics organized in other Engineering Colleges like NIT and many other Universities.

Department of electrical and electronics engineering

The department of electrical and electronics engineering was established in the year 2006 with an approved intake of 30 students. In the Academic Year 2006-2007, the dept is started with 22 Students and in the next academic year 30 students joined the dept.

The department is having a team of dedicated and competent Faculties working for the growth of department and the institution as well. The Department has Electrical Machines Lab, Electronic circuits & Devices Lab, Control Systems Lab, Microprocessor Lab & Power Electronics Lab.

The Students are motivated to participate in the Seminars, Workshops and Conferences conducted at various Engineering Colleges. Our Students also presents Papers about Recent trends in Electrical Technology at National Level Technical Symposium conducted other institution. The active and sustained involvement of the students makes them more involved for effective learning.

At the present scenario, Power Generation & Utilization, its economic as well as its stability has become an issue under discussion This increases the scope for Electrical Engineers.

MBA

The department being perhaps the youngest in the college, has taken upon itself the responsibility to provide the best inputs to the students and mould them into successful potential managers to the corporate world, and takes up the goal to prepare and train the students in conformity with the changing environment which explains why business management degrees are most sought after by the students.

The curriculum of MBA programme is formulated to match with the requirements of industries and offers 5 streams of specialization. The teaching pedagogy includes Finance, Marketing, HR, Systems and operations management. From the beginning, we hope to train the students to face the corporate interviews. Special emphasis will is laid on communication skills, Inter- personal skills, and General Business Awareness.
