ABOUT JEC:
Jabalpur Engineering College, Jabalpur was established on 7 July, 1947 when the entire global chess board was witnessing a dramatic change.
It was born just a few months before India broke the shackles of British slavery.
This illustrious Institution got the distinction of being the Second Engineering College in India and is the premier institution of Engineering Education in Central India.
Thanks to the inspired vision of the great pioneering Principal Dr. S.P. Chakravarti. From a very small room in old Robertson College, this tiny icon has grown into a mighty oak tree, which is now 63 years old and has celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in the year 2007.
The college since its inception has a well equipped High Voltage Laboratory and Telecommunication Department which was not available in any other contemporary colleges.
Even before the advent of Television in the country, Telecommunication Lab was established in this college.
The former has been made as one of the Centers of Excellence by Govt. of India in recognition of its contribution in the area of High-Voltage research and testing.
It is getting grants from government of India to further promote its research and development activities.
The college also has the distinction of being the first in India to offer BE degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.
Jabalpur Engineering College has been one of the leading institutes for providing quality technical education in a variety of disciplines.
Our students have been performing tremendously well in and outside campus. Numerous examples can be seen where the students have excelled in their fields
Apart from IITs this college is one of the few colleges in India which runs Postgraduate Courses (PG) and PhD programmes in the area of Applied Sciences.
Full fledged department with separate building and qualified teachers is running these departments.
Presently, this college offers B.E. Degree courses in 7 disciplines and 10 Post Graduate courses in various engineering fields, 4 Post Graduate courses in Applied Sciences and M.C.A.
For the in-serivce personnel holding Diploma in Engineering, Part Time Degree Courses of four year duration are being run at night since 1966.
PTDC courses strive to impart higher education to desirous and deserving and working diploma holders for improving their professional & career prospects.
This course was started with the intake of 20 students and in each of the core branches i.e. Civil,Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics and Telecommunication Department. P.G. Courses in Applied Sciences were offered since 1962.

Living upto the motto,"Onwards On Wings" JEC has now gained Academic Autonomy. The course has been redesigned & updated and has come to effect.
As soon as you set foot on-campus, you will notice that JEC has a 'feel' that is quite different from other universities.
Unlike many other campuses that are grey and impersonal, JEC 's buildings are a mix of modern and traditional, surrounded by trees and open spaces.
The campus is so easy to get around it won't take long to feel at home and begin soaking up the atmosphere - chatting over vehicles at the stand, playing cricket on the field or rushing off to lectures.
JEC's learning environment embraces a self learning style of learning, which is an exploratory and independent style of learning.
Students are required to be self motivated, and to seek out help from staff at the earliest opportunity.
Students are also required to analyse and challenge ideas, concepts and issues and to present their own interpretations.
If students mention the theories or concepts of other authors or experts within the body of their work, students are required to formally acknowledge these sources.
JEC offers BE degree courses in seven disciplines and nine post graduate courses in various fields; three PG courses in Applied Science and MCA.
The college is now declared Autonomous by the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
Sufficient facilities are available for the teachers and students of Applied Sciences and various engineering disciplines for doing their research work and their PhD and D Sc. Degrees.
About sixty teachers/students have been awarded Ph.D. degree from this college.
To keep in consonance with the fast emerging technologies, JEC is taking a lot of initiatives by revitalizing its courses and taking many projects in thrust area of engineering and technologies.

BRIEF DETAIL ABOUT SOME DEPARTMENTS AVAILABLE:
CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT:
Civil Engineering Department is one of the pioneering departments, in the entire region of M.P.
It stands elegantly in the heart of the college, stretching over an area of 4889.00 sq.m., surrounded by various other departments and the administrative block.
Apart from imparting education to U.G. and P.G. Students, the faculty of the department has also contributed significantly in providing testing and consultancy service to local industries and state government departments.
HIGHLIGHTS:
In M.P. this college has earned the status of “State Technical Agency” for Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. Under this project scrutinies are made of the project proposals from 10 districts of M.P.. The proposals, after scrutiny, are sent to MPRRDA/NRRDA for approval
During Financial year 2009-10 the department has earned more then Rs.18 Lac by checking Detailed Project Reports submitted by different PIUs of MPRRDA.
The Department earned Rs. 28 lac by way of providing testing & consultancy services to different Private, Public, State and Central Government organization.
The faculty members assisted in the technical investigation of Ropeway at Bheraghat.
Environmental Engineering laboratory of the department is modernised with advance computer installation (20) along with printers, scanners & networking facility. NRRDA appreciated the faculty of this department for their exemplary performance & hard work in the area of rural road construction.
Madhya Pradesh Council of Science & Technology (MPCST) Bhopal, has sponsored a year project entitled “Deflouridation of ground water by locally available material for tribal district of Mandla (M.P.)
The prestigious Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has sponsored a Project entitled “Hydrological Modelling of Project Tiger National Park” Pench Mandla, District.
ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT:
Electrical Engineering department was established in 1947 Spreading over an area of 5865 sq.m. it is situated just adjacent to the tennis court of the college.
The department occupies a prominent place in the history of this institution by becoming a Centre of Relevance and Excellence (CORE) in High Voltage and Power System Engineering.
This extraordinary achievement of the department was possible because of the unique High Voltage Engineering Laboratory.
A Transformer Repair Unit (TRU) : This unit was inaugurated on February 2nd, 2005 with an objective to detect & analyze defects in transformers which fail during impulse testing so that the transformer design can be improved. This unit has also taken up the repairs of old distribution transformers from agencies like MPSEB, MES, PWD, etc.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Many new equipments such as Digital Impulse Analysis System (DIAS) - 733, Partial Discharge Detector (PDD)- 2000, Gas Chromatograph, Pressure Vessel and Vacuum Chamber, Acoustic PDD, Dust and Fog tracking & Erosion equipments, Capacitance Energy Test Equipments, Surface Tensometer etc. have been added to H.V. Laboratories so as to enhance the research activities and consultancy projects in the Deptt.
DC and AC drives laboratory is being set-up under TEQIP.
The faculty had taken up the testing work & generated a revenue worth Rs. 16 lac during the session 2009-10. This includes impulse testingof transformers & cables, oil testing, calibration of meters, fault detection by acoustic, partial discharge detector in transformers & cables.
A two day National Conference on “Advances in Power System and High Voltage Engineering” was successfully organized by the faculty of the Department.
09 students of the department were awarded with Chancellor Scholarship award on 9 June 2010.
About 20 research papers were published in reputed journals and magazines.
Under the auspices of this department the students organized “Urja”.
DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS:
As the new era witnessed a swift development in Computer and Information Technology this department is making every possible effort to prepare Post Graduate Computer Professionals.
Best software facilities are provided to the students owing to which they get excellent training in software engineering.
The department provides its students the best software & computing machines to carry-out their practical assignment & project work.
This department possesses 5 work stations, 12 server, 15 standalone systems and 30 printers.
For project work the students of this department prepare software packages for the other organizations.
HIGHLIGHTS:
About 25 students of the Department have been selected in campus recruitment by reputed companies like TCS, Wipro, Persistent, Infosys, etc. in the past.
The Department has submitted proposals for organising National Conference and Short Term Training Programme (STTP) to the Directorate of Technical Education, Bhopal under Staff Development Programme.
The presitigious Doctoral Degree was conferred/awarded by Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur to a faculty of this department.
The Head of the Department was nominated as Subject Expert for faculty selection by A.P.S. University, Rewa. He was also appointed as subject expert for the selection of System Officers and System Assistants under e-court project of Hon'ble High Court of M.P., Jabalpur.
TRAINING AND PLACEMENT CELL:

The Training & Placement Cell which was established in 1970's develops a close liaison with a number of prestigious industries so that graduate from the portals of this institution get respectable jobs in various reputed firms. Sincere efforts of the Training & Placement officer has helped the institute to stand on the 35th rank amongst all engineering colleges in India.

It stands majestically on the Tropic of Cancer and on the banks of the river Narmada which flows through the white marble rocks cluster - site known for its munificence beauty in the world.
Nature has also bestowed its unique beauty to the college by providing a beautiful lake as its natural background.
The college spreads over an area of 255 acres in the north-eastern outskirts of Jabalpur at Dindori road.
JEC Jabalpur is a small township in itself. Consciously developed, the campus has retained and increased its green cover, rich in natural flora and fauna.
