The students are admitted into the UG programmes based on their score in the EAMCET - a Common Entrance Test conducted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and into the PG programmes based on their GATE scores based on all India ranking or their ranking in AUCET conducted by the Andhra University.

Professor G.S.N.Raju is the Principle of AU College of engineering. Sir Dr. C.R.Reddy was the founder Vice-Chancellor of the Andhra University. At present, the College of Engineering (Autonomous) consists of 12 Engineering and 4 Basic Sciences departments, totalling to 16 departments, offering 15 Under-Graduate Engineering day-time programmes and 4 UG Engineering part-time programmes; 28 Post-Graduate Engineering programmes, 1 MCA and 3 M.Sc. programmes in various departments. All the departments are also running Ph.D. programmes in different fields of research.

DEPARTMENT OF GEO ENGINEERING:
The department has successfully carried out several research projects, with multidisciplinary approach funded by ISRO, DST, MOEn, DONCE, DOD, NRSA, AICTE, IGIDR and other govt. and non-govt. organizations. The India Space Research Organizations has sanctioned an amount of Rs.37.80 lakhs towards building a state-of-the-art-remote sensing and GIS laboratory as part of the joint teaching and research programme. The faculty fulfills their responsibilities to the society by involving themselves in creating awareness in water harvesting and water conservation methods. The Department has been providing training in modern methods of Remote Sensing and GIS water resources and watershed management studies to engineers of various governmental/non-governmental organizations.

Hostels
Hostel facility is available to both boys and girls, though for a limited number of students. Students from outside Visakhapatnam can seek admission into the hostels by applying to the Chief Warden of the Hostels.
Medical Centres
Both allopathic and homoeopathic medical centres are functioning on the campus. There are two allopathic medical centres, one in the North Campus and the other in the South Campus. The homoeopathic medical centre is situated next to the telegraph office.
Games and Sports
There are two play grounds, viz., The Silver Jubilee play ground and the Golden Jubilee Play ground on the campus. There is a department of Physical Education too. In addition, there is also a Gymnasium.
Yoga
There is a Yoga Village on the beach road, attached to the Institute for Yoga and Consciousness, where various training programmes in yoga are conducted.
