SCOPE OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS

Hi viewer this article was written by our Thiyagarajan sir who is one of the Asst.Professor. In this article he have given about the scope and also the placement details of electrical and electronics engineering in the day to day life. I hope so this will be useful to all the students who are aiming to become an Electrical engineer.

Engineering as such is a vast field that offers infinite specialization. All fields in the modern economy have been invigorated by engineering technology. This field deals with designing application and maintenance. The three traditional branches of engineering are civil, mechanical and electrical. Apart form these, there are various other branches like Aeronautical engineering, Ceramic engineering, chemical engineering, computer engineering, automobile engineering, industrial engineering, environmental engineering, marine engineering, textile engineering etc.
Electrical and Electronics Engineering is one of the core branches of engineering studies started as Electrical Engineering. The major thrust in this course is related to the basic principles and detailed analysis of different types of equipments and systems for generation, transmission, distribution and utilization of Electrical Energy. The course also covers the study of electronic devices and circuits involved in measurement, instrumentation, control and protection of electrical equipments and conversion systems. Concept of computer and recent applications of computer based systems in design, analysis and efficient operation of power system, maintaining quality and security, also included in the course.
Electrical graduate are employed in Electricity Boards/Utility companies and large industries as engineers and managers, responsible for installation, maintenance, operation of power handling equipments and systems. Industries manufacturing large electrical machines and equipments employ engineers in design, production and testing. Educational Institutions and Research establishments recruit electrical engineers as faculty and scientists.

During the B.Tech programme, the electrical engineers develop analytical skills and reasoning power along with computer knowledge and programming skills. This facilitates them to acquire employment also as software professionals. With little extra input, an electrical and electronic engineering graduate can easily find place in any area of Information Technology, which is the potential job market at present.
In this area, the engineers' task involves generating, distributing and using electrical power and power control and instrumentally processing the format in the fields of communication, control system, electronic computer, industrial electronics and instrumentation etc.

Job Opportunities

A Graduate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering has a wide range Employment Opportunities in Government and private companies for installation, operation and maintenance of electronics equipments and systems. Defence, space and other large research organizations employ Electrical and Electronics engineers in design and development of complex devices and systems for signal processing and telecommunication. Industries involved in design and fabrication of devices, integrated circuits, embedded systems, electronic equipments etc have also provide large scale placements for engineers with this specialization. Installation and maintenance of electronic equipments used for health care in hospitals, equipments & systems for instrumentation and control in process industries automation systems of assembly line in production industries, etc are also handled by Electrical and Electronics engineers.

Many electrical engineering graduates opt for careers in the food, pulp and paper, chemical, aircraft and automobile industries.
